Martial Art Philosophy
|
There is more to the martial arts than just training the physical body. Without learning the mental aspect we become nothing more than punks and brawlers. It's difficult to control the body, but it's even more difficult to control the mind. This is the way of a true martial artist. In this section there will be short stories and exurpts from famous works of the ages. Please read through them and find out what meaning each story has for yourself and your life. There is no one true answer. Every person may take something different from them. Enjoy |

EXCESS He who stretches beyond his natural reach, does not stand firmly upon the ground; just as he who travels at a speed beyond his means, cannot maintain his pace. He who boasts is not enlightened, and he who is self-righteous does not gain respect from those who are meritous; thus, he gains nothing, and will fall into disrepute. Since striving, boasting and self-righteousness, are all unnecessary traits, the sage considers them excesses, and has no need of them.
